At this moment, the market for offshore BPO services by Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) is very limited. However, expectations are that demand will increase fast in the short to medium term. Large companies increasingly set up their own offices offshore, the so-called ‘captive centres’, while SMEs are gradually offshoring more of their services. Although India is the benchmarking region in the field of offshore outsourcing, Europe is increasingly looking at nearshore locations to outsource services. Especially Eastern Europe, with countries like Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary is becoming more popular. Africa is also growing, primarily due to linguistic skills which are found in the North (French) and the South (Dutch and English) and their cultural or physical closeness to Europe.
