EU legislation: Nickel in clothing, jewellery and accessories

If you want to export clothing, jewellery or accessories to the EU, you have to make sure that metal parts in your products do not release too much nickel. Nickel is a metal that is sometimes used in alloys used for ornaments (such as armlets, bracelets and earrings) and in clothing and accessories (such as zippers and buttons). The EU has set requirements for nickel in products coming in contact with the skin. Products that do not meet these requirements will be taken from the market.

This document provides information on the legal requirements, as well as information on how to ensure compliance.
