EU legislation: Phthalates in toys and childcare articles

If you want to export toys or childcare articles to the EU, you have to make sure that your products do not contain substances that are prohibited by EU law, such as phthalates. This document provides information on the restriction on the use of phthalates in toys and childcare articles and possible alternatives. Furthermore, it provides information on recent development regarding the use of phthalates under the REACH legislation.

Please note that some stationery or decorative items are considered toys by EU authorities. As a consequence, these products also have to meet the requirements on phthalates in toys, as well as all other EU requirements set for toys.
