International management system: Process control

Sectors that process control and FMEA are applied in are castings and forgings, automotive, engineering and pipe and process equipment.

Process control is a system that maps all operations, including their influences on other operations, in a production process. This preventive way of working might bring several benefits to the production itself, as well as a competitive advantage.

A ‘failure modes and effects analysis’ (FMEA) is often seen as a logical next step. In FMEA, failures are prioritized according to how serious their consequences are, how frequently they occur and how easily they can be detected. Again, many benefits are possible. Both ways of working are applied in small and medium sized companies and therefore very relevant for exporters from developing countries.
